OPEN AND GO LEARNING
Our pre-recorded videos make Liahona Microschools flexible and easy to run. Parents don't need to plan and prepare for hours each week. Groups can accommodate the different ages of learners easily.
But don't worry that students are glued to devices all day. Total video time in the school day is 30 to 45 minutes. The rest of the time the students are engaged in active learning tasks; reading, writing, experimenting, creating, and sharing their work with their peers.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
-
How many days does the microschool need to meet?
The minimum amount that a Liahona Microschool should meet is once a week. This weekly gathering would include Science Experiments, Art Projects, Partner Writing Conferences, and Essay Presentations. Individual families could then complete the videos on their own the other days of the week. Most groups prefer to meet more frequently. Depending on group size, meeting locations, and driving distances, groups can meet more frequently, gathering two, three, or all four days a week, as parents take turns doing the facilitating.
-
How many students can we have in our group?
We recommend between 4-12 students per parent facilitator. Groups can be larger, with 13 to 24 students, if there are more parent helpers to facilitate instruction.
-
What is the time commitment?
The K-2 program takes 2 hours a day, 4 days a week, 32 weeks a year. The 3-8th grade program is designed to take 3 to 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, for 32 weeks a year.
-
How long will we have access to the materials?
Your group will have access to the materials for 11 months from the time of purchase.
-
Will we need to supplement with any other curriculum?
All instructions for the Core Subjects is provided. Parents can choose to add their own enrichment activities to the end of the co-op day if desired.
-
Do we have to do the videos at certain times or on certain days?
All the videos can be watched anytime, anywhere. The instruction is prerecorded so groups can set their schedule. Begin school when you want and take breaks when you want. You establish your own daily, weekly, and monthly school calendar.
-
How much supervision do students need?
Our program follows a predictable instruction pattern, making it easy for students to follow independently. Assignments are broken down into smaller parts, and teachers provide a step-by-step guide in the videos. Students can check their work against teacher models and do self-assessments regularly. This makes it possible for one parent to facilitate multiple ages of children in the group.
-
Do we have to upload and submit our work?
No. There is no uploading or submitting work. Parents are provided with quarterly evaluation rubrics and are taught how to evaluate their student’s progress 4 times a year. In the meantime, students are encouraged to set their own goals for improvement and growth and are taught how to take ownership for their own learning.
-
Will this work for a struggling reader or writer?
Yes. Video-based curriculum is a wonderful way to support a struggling reader or writer. The ability to pause and rewatch instruction can vastly improve outcomes for students with slower processing speeds. We provide audio files of written material to help struggling readers.
